AI voice agent launch checklist: 30 checks before your first real call
A 30-point pre-launch checklist for an AI voice agent, grouped by prompt, knowledge, telephony, booking, compliance and review, so nothing is missed on day one.

This AI voice agent checklist covers the thirty checks worth doing before an agent speaks to a real lead. Work through it in order, tick items as you go, and treat any unchecked item as a reason to wait. Most launch problems come from a small number of skipped basics, not from the technology.
AI voice agent checklist: prompt and persona
- One clear goal for the call (book, qualify, confirm), written in a sentence.
- The opening line is written word for word and takes under 20 seconds.
- The agent has a name, company and a plain reason for calling.
- Tone rules are concrete (short sentences, one question at a time).
- Objection handling covers at least the five you hear most.
- Hard rules are written: stop when asked, never invent facts, no advice outside scope.
- Variables from your contact list (name, source) fill in correctly.
Not sure how to word these? Start from the prompt template.
Knowledge base
- Pricing, services, locations and hours are written down and current.
- Anything the agent must not say is marked clearly.
- A "don't know" response is defined (take a note, promise a follow-up).
- Answers are short enough to say aloud.
- Someone other than the author has read it for errors.
Voice and call experience
- The voice suits your audience and is easy to understand.
- Interruptions are handled: the agent stops and responds.
- Silence is handled: the agent checks in after a pause rather than talking over it.
- Pronunciation of your brand and key terms has been checked by ear.
- You have made at least one test call to your own phone in a noisy place.
Phone numbers and telephony
- The number is connected through your provider (Twilio, Plivo or SuperPhone).
- The caller ID shows a number people can call back.
- A voicemail or inbound path exists for people who ring that number.
- Provider balance is topped up so calls do not fail mid-campaign.
- Calling hours match the contact's local time, not yours.
Booking and handoff
- Google Calendar is connected and shows real availability.
- Test bookings appear on the calendar with the right time zone.
- The agent reads back date, time and email before ending the call.
- Transfer conditions are defined, and the receiving person knows to expect calls.
- Summaries and transcripts reach the right person.
Compliance and consent
General information, not legal advice. Check current rules where you call.
- You have a lawful basis or consent for calling each contact.
- Do-not-call and suppression lists have been applied.
- Disclosure of AI use is decided and written into the opening.
- Recording notice is in place if you record.
- Opt-out requests are honoured immediately.
The sales call compliance checklist goes deeper on each of these.
Monitoring and review
- Someone owns reading transcripts for the first week.
- You know your first success metric (for example, bookings per 100 contacts).
- A small first batch is chosen, not the full list.
- You have a way to pause the campaign quickly.
- A review date is in the calendar.
Quick scoring
| Items ticked | What it means |
|---|---|
| 28-30 | Ready for a small live batch |
| 22-27 | Fix the gaps first, especially compliance and testing |
| Under 22 | Not ready; run more test calls and finish the knowledge base |
What to do in the first 48 hours
- Launch to a small batch, 20 to 50 contacts is plenty.
- Read every transcript from the first day.
- Note each place the agent hesitated, misunderstood or sounded stiff.
- Fix the two biggest issues, retest by phone, then continue.
Use the call quality scorecard so your reviews stay consistent, and the outbound campaign checklist when you set up the list, hours and retries.

Frequently asked questions
What should I check before launching an AI voice agent?
Check the prompt, knowledge base, voice, phone number, booking or transfer flow, consent and disclosure, and how you will review calls. Then run test calls that include interruptions and awkward questions.
How many test calls should I make before going live?
Enough to cover each path: a good lead, a sceptic, a wrong number, a request for a human and a question the agent cannot answer. For many teams that is 10 to 20 calls, including some made by colleagues.
Should I launch to my whole list at once?
No. Start with a small batch, read the transcripts and fix issues before scaling. A small first campaign limits the damage from any mistake.
Who should be on the team that reviews the launch?
At minimum someone who knows the offer, someone who knows your calling rules and someone who will read transcripts afterwards. For a small business that can be one person wearing three hats.
What is the most common launch mistake?
Skipping real test calls. Reading a prompt on screen is not the same as hearing it handle an interruption, so always call your own phone first.
